TitleFlavoured Leptogenesis and Neutrino Mass Matrix
Date24 July (Tue) 15:30 H711
AbstractSeesaw mechanism can explain the existence of the baryon asymmetryof the Universe by successful leptogenesis scenario. Recently, it was pointed out that flavour affects the prediction of leptogenesis. In this talk, I will show interesting features of the flavoured leptogenesis scenario.

TitleAn Attempt Towards Field Theory of D-Branes
Speaker
Date18 July (Wed) 15:30 H711 <------ Attention!
AbstractIn this seminar, I outline my recent attempt towards field theory for D-branes. After explaining some background material as motivation, I propose a new field-theoretic framework for formulating the non-relativistic quantum mechanics of D particles (D0 branes) in terms of quantum field operators, creating and annihilating D particles in the Fock space of U(N) Yang-Mills theories. Together with the open-closed string duality, our new formulation suggests a trinity of three different but dual viewpoints on string theory.

TitleAdS/CFT Correspondence as a Consequence of Scale Invariance
Speaker
Date12 July (Thur) 15:30 H711 <------ Attention!
AbstractWe study an anisotropic scale transformation in the worldsheet description of D3-branes in Type IIB theory, and show that the transformation is really a symmetry in a region near D3-branes. AdS/CFT correspondence follows from this symmetry. We will explicitly show that Wilson loops in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and minimal surfaces in AdS_5 are related by the symmetry. The functional form of a supersymmetric Wilson loop operator is naturally derived from our worldsheet point of view.

TitleKnizhnik-Zamolodchikov, Schlesinger and reduction of ASDYM
Speaker
Date4 July (Wed) 15:30 H711 <------ Attention!

TitleHawking Radiation and Anomalies of Higher-spin Currents
Speaker
Date19 June (Tue) 15:30 H711
AbstractQuantum fields in the near horizon region of the black hole backgrounds can be described in terms of two-dimensional conformal field theories. By investigating anomalies of general higher-spin currents, we reproduce the thermal distribution of Hawking radiation in Schwarzschild and RN black holes. This talk is based on hep-th/0701272 and arXiv:0705.3494.

TitleNonsupersymmetric Metastable Configurations in type IIA/M-theory

Abstract

TitleOrigin of dressing phase in N=4 Super Yang-Mills
Speaker
Date5 June (Tue) 15:30 H711

Date25 May (Fri) 14:00 E210 <------ Attention!
Abstract

TitleThe Origins of String Theory
Speaker
Date16 May (Wed) 16:30 H601 <------ Attention!
AbstractThe 1950s and 60s were the time of steady progress in particle physics. On the one hand, new hadrons showed up one after another, and on the other, theorists groped for the correct ways to make sense out of them. The hadronic string theory was an outcome of these efforts, which eventually would lead to the present superstring theory. I will give an overview of that exciting development.

TitleSO(10) GUT in 5D spacetime
Speaker
Date8 May (Tue) 15:30 H711
Abstract

TitleNeutrino Mixing, Low Energy Leptonic CP-Violation and Leptogenesis
SpeakerSerguey T. Petcov (SISSA/INFN)
Date27 April (Fri) 12:00 H711 <------ Attention!
AbstractTaking into account the recent progress in the understanding of the lepton flavour effects in leptogenesis, the possibility will be discussed that the CP-violation necessary for the generation of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe is due exclusively to the Dirac and/or Majorana CP-violating phases in the PMNS neutrino mixing matrix $U$, and thus is directly related to the low energy CP-violation in the lepton sector (e.g., in neutrino oscillations, etc.).

Speaker
Date25 April (Wed) 11:30 B307 <------ Attention!

TitleThe Killing superalgebra of a supergravity background
SpeakerJose Figueroa-O'Farrill (University of Edinburgh)
Date13 April (Fri) 12:00 H711 <------ Attention!
AbstractI will review the construction of a Lie superalgebra associated to a supersymmetric supergravity background for the 10- and 11-dimensional supergravity theories and then I will discuss applications of this construction: some historical (e.g., early geometric tests of the AdS/CFT correspondence), and some more modern (e.g., how much supersymmetry makes the background homogeneous). If time allows, I will also comment on what this superalgebra might be able to teach us about quantum corrections.

TitleManifestly gauge invariant exact renormalization group
SpeakerTimothy Richard Morris (Southampton University)
Date10 April (Tue) 15:30 H711
AbstractWe construct a manifestly gauge invariant Exact Renormalization Group for SU(N) Yang-Mills theory, in a form suitable for calculations without gauge fixing at any order of perturbation theory. The effective cutoff is incorporated via a manifestly realised spontaneously broken SU(N|N) gauge invariance. Diagrammatic methods are developed which allow the calculations to proceed without specifying the precise form of the cutoff structure. We confirm consistency by computing for the first time both the one and two loop beta function coefficients without fixing the gauge or specifying the details of the cutoff. We conclude by sketching how quarks fit in and a new non-perturbative approximation scheme.
