In our group [Particle Physics Theory Group 1 (Kanemura Group) ], we are making researches in theoretical particle physics. Elementary particles are the minimum units of matter, and we theoretically explore natures of elementary particles which the Universe is made of. Origin of such a study began in the ancient Greek period, and the theoretical particle physics is its modern version of the study that is still on going. The theory of particle physics is yet to be completed. New knowledge obtained by theoretical insights, new experiments and observations is always extending the horizon of particle physics.
In our laboratory, we mainly study subjects in fields of particle phenomenology and particle cosmology. The standard model for particle physics is a good theory which can describe and explain most of the phenomena observed by experiments and observations. However, today we know that there are several phenomena which cannot be described in the standard model, such as the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the Universe (baryon asymmetry of the Universe), dark matter, origin of tiny mass of neutrinos, cosmic inflation, dark energy etc. Clearly new theory is necessary to explain such new physics beyond the standard model. Main subject in our group is to explore such a new more fundamental and more unified theory to explain such new physics phenomena. In particular, we often consider that physics of spontaneous breaking of electroweak gauge symmetry is a key to approach new physics, and we explore new theory models using theoretical insights with inputs from experiments and observations.

Kanemura Group is composed of three faculty members (Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor), several postdocs, four Ph. D students and five master courses students (in 2023). Many of the Ph. D students will be postdocs after getting the degree of Ph. D, working in various countries in Asia, Europe, and America.

Chairing workshops and international conferences
Our group organizes “New Higgs Working Group”, which is a continuous research activity since 2012, whose regular meetings are held three or four times in every year. In each regular meeting, 40-50 researchers and graduate students of theoretical particle physics participate in and discuss many physics problems. We also organize international conferences for every two years, “Higgs as a Probe of New Physics (HPNP)” for which 150-200 world experts and graduate students visit Osaka.
